Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot Will Return for ‘Wonder Woman 3’

It took Warner Bros. exactly 48 hours after Wonder Woman 1984 simultaneously premiered in theaters and on HBO in the United States to officially green light Wonder Woman 3.

Patty Jenkins will return to write and direct the third and final Wonder Woman film starring Gal Gadot as part of the DC Films initiative. That doesn’t mean Diana Prince won’t appear in other projects; however, a theatrical trilogy was “long-planned” per a statement by Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

We’re definitely in uncharted territory considering the quick Wonder Woman 3 green light following a $16.7 million opening weekend domestically and $36.1 million globally thus far from a $200 million budget for Wonder Woman 1984. The HBO Max numbers tripled on Christmas Day when that film dropped, though the exact number of viewers has not been disclosed by the studio.

The earliest you can expect Wonder Woman 3 to arrive would be 2022, though 2023 or 2024 seems more like. Patty Jenkins has already committed to a Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie for Lucasfilm and Disney that would presumably be produced ahead of Wonder Woman 3 given it already has a 2023 release time frame set.

Wonder Woman 1984 will leave HBO Max and continue its theatrical run on January 25th, 2021. Look for a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD release sometime in either March or April.
