As September 4 draws closer into view, the inevitably of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens product leaks grows by the day. I fully expected the leaks to begin by early August at the latest, and today a couple leaks from the Star Wars: Episode 7 LEGO line have revealed a couple new characters. The Force Awakens spoilers definitely apply so proceed at your own risk.
The leak originated at fbtb.net (and has already been removed at the request of Lucasfilm) and featured images of the boxes from two upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens LEGO sets: the Millennium Falcon (75015) and Poe Dameron’s X-Wing (black version — 75012). Each vehicle’s LEGO form is undeniably cool, but it’s the Star Wars minifigures included with especially the Falcon that will raise eyebrows.
First let’s rundown the minifigures included with Poe’s hot ride. They include Poe Dameron with a black X-Wing helmet, a second Resistance X-Wing pilot. a Resistance ground crew member — clearly alien — in green attire, and BB-8 — destined to ride along with Poe into the heat of battle.
The Millennium Falcon LEGO set includes Han Solo, Chewbacca, Rey Finn, BB-8, and new characters Tasu Leech and Kanjiklub Gang Member. The natural conclusion to draw is that Mr. Leech is the leader of this Gang and that Solo and company will cross paths with these thugs during their adventure.
What’s curious about not necessarily the new characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens but the other characters is the complete absence of a last name on Rey and Finn. On one hand each character could have been raised an orphan and never knew their parentage or bothered to adopt a last name. On the other the last names could be major spoilers and thus are deliberately being kept off merchandising per a directive from J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm / Disney’s marketing arm.
