Director Zack Snyder has made a late change during production of Man of Steel that will give the superhero a new mother.
According to Deadline, Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer has been brought on board to play Superman’s Kryptonian mother, Lara Lor-Van. The role had been previously attached Julia Ormond, and there’s no current information as to if she left the film or was asked to leave.
Zurer will play opposite Russell Crowe as Jor-El in Man of Steel. Previously she was the female lead in Angels and Demons and also appeared alongside Eric Bana in Munich.
Man of Steel also stars Henry Cavill, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne and Antje Traue. It won’t be in theaters until June 14, 2013.
