First Star Wars: Rogue One Set Images Feature Original Trilogy Stormtroopers

What appears to be the first Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One set images have surfaced online and we’re still several months away from the premiere of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. These images contain mild spoilers so step back into the Original Trilogy era at your own risk.

The Star Wars: Rogue One set images were shared online by the UK’s Mirror website and appear to have been snapped by a nosy drone with an obvious agenda. Several cast and crew members can be seen staring up at the camera so I suspect this was a short flight and the producers be wise to any such set incursions moving forward.

The Mirror suggests these images are from The Force Awakens but they’re clearly from Rogue One. Not only were they shot recently by Splash News long after shooting on The Force Awakens wrapped up, but they feature classic Stormtroopers and a tropical landscape not yet seen in any Star Wars film — including The Force Awakens.

Making Star Wars goes on to speculate that the Imperial grey landing craft hatch was re-purposed from The Force Awakens with a fresh coat of grey paint on top of what was previously white paint. It makes sense that Lucasfilm and Disney would try to recycle as many props as possibly from one Star Wars film to the next in order to keep lofty budgets in check.

Here’s one of the Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One set images with several guys staring up at the drone (embedded from the Mirror), and you’ll want to hop over to the Mirror to peruse the rest.
