Final Fantastic Four Trailer Brings Plenty of CGI and Corny Lines

Twentieth Century Fox has released a final Fantastic Four trailer online that will likely be attached to this weekend’s big Marvel’s Ant-Man movie debut. If reactions to the trailer are any indication then Fantastic Four has a steep hill to climb if it wants to meet or exceed the Marvel box office success precedent.

The final Fantastic Four trailer starts in the past as a young Reed Richards is introduced during a presentation to his grade school class. Richards mocks his teacher by saying that he’s already built a teleportation device and then goes on to test it out with a young Ben Grimm.

Alien landscapes, a violent Thing and ample CGI are strewn throughout the rest of the trailer. For whatever reason Fox chose to share absolute cringe-worthy lines such as “What if we say no… Say yes” and “He’s stronger than any of us! He’s not stronger than all of us.” My personal favorite nod to the obvious is, “We can’t change the past, but we can change the future.”

Easily more than half the YouTube comments about this trailer and the reboot in general are negative. There’s little buzz building up toward the film’s August 7 release date, and I fear that glowing reviews and word-of-mouth are Fantastic Four’s last hope for joining the likes of Green Lantern in comic book movie’s hall of shame. Hopefully there’s more to this film than meets the eye.

Fantastic Four is directed by Josh Trank and stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey, and Tim Blake Nelson.
