Dwayne Johnson Reveals ‘Jumanji 3’ Release Date, Will Combat ‘Star Wars: Episode 9’

The Jumanji sequel is moving full steam ahead over at Sony following the immense success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. We already knew pre-production was underway, and now we know when Jumanji 3 (or Jumanji 2 depending on how you count the Robin Williams original) will roar into theaters.

Making the announcement online was none other than The Rock himself, Dwayne Johnson. He fired up his Instagram account and shared the now official Jumanji 3 release date of December 13, 2019.

The significance of that date is it falls exactly one week prior to when Disney and Lucasfilm will release the J.J. Abrams Star Wars trilogy finale, Star Wars: Episode XI. How many theaters will be anxious to relinquish seats to Episode XI if Jumanji 3 tears up the box office its opening weekend?

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has earned $961.7 million worldwide since its release and had to battle Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the box office. Sony is unwilling to back down from the Power of the Force with their new mega franchise so expect packed theaters come December 2019.
