Bill Murray Ghostbusters Reboot Cameo Confirmed by Trades

Years of unsuccessfully prodding Bill Murray to at least read various incarnations of a new Ghostbusters movie script are a distant memory for Sony Pictures with news that Murray will appear in the Ghostbusters reboot from writer/director Paul Feig.

The Murray connection first broke on social media where the actor was photographed heading towards Feig’s Ghostbusters set after flying into the area the day before. Various trades including The Hollywood Reporter and The Wrap confirmed Murray’s cameo on Sunday with their inside sources.

Murray joins original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd who had already been confirmed to appear in the new film. Neither actors’ roles are known so they could conceivably be playing Dr. Peter Venkman and Ray Stantz, respectively, or each could appear as all-new supporting characters thrown in for nostalgia’s sake. From a marketing perspective if Murray and Aykroyd were reprising their roles to help drum up additional interest in the film.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones comprise the new Ghostbusting quartet, and we will hopefully get our first look at the Ghostbusters trailer later this year. Ghostbusters drops into theaters on July 22, 2016.
