Last night the first Assassin’s Creed movie trailer premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live followed shortly thereafter by the first theatrical one-sheet movie poster that you should spot at your local cineplex any day now.
The Assassin’s Creed trailer draws heavy inspiration from the Ubisoft video game series it is based on. Many nods to the games including the “leap of faith” and various attack moves can be spotted throughout the trailer. The Animus, however, appears to have been redesigned for the film universe compared to its video game counterpart.
The film’s story and characters were created specifically for the Assassin’s Creed movie and not plucked from the game universe. No, Fassbender is not playing Ezio, Altair or Connor.
Assassin’s Creed stars Michael Fassbender in the titular roles of Aguilar de Nehra of the Spanish Inquisition and his modern day convict descendant, Callum Lynch. Jeremy Irons and Marion Cottilard also have key roles with Justin Kurzel handling directorial duties.
Look for Assassin’s Creed in theaters on December 21st, 2016.
