An early Thanksgiving treat was delivered by Twentieth Century Fox today in the form of the first Alien: Covenant poster from director Ridley Scott and starring Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Katherine Waterson, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo and Noomi Rapace.
The Alien: Covenant poster serves potentially three purposes. It reveals a new May 19th, 2017 release date, nearly three months earlier than the previous August 4th, 2017 release date Fox had given it. This is a bullish move by Fox to move Alien: Covenant into a more prominent summer slot just ahead of Memorial Day.
Iconic xenomorph imagery along with the simple word “run” promises to deliver classic Aliens that the film’s predecessor Prometheus failed to. Revealing a classic Alien design this early shows that Fox is keying on winning back the Alien franchise fans who were turned off by the direction of Prometheus.
Lastly the arrival of the Alien: Covenant poster means that we could be seeing the first Alien: Covenant teaser trailer before this week is out.
