As the December 1 release date for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six|Siege draws ever closer, long-time fans are wrapping up their sci-fi, futuristic shooters, and their FPS battles in a galaxy far, far, away in preparation. R6|Siege promises to bring back the tactical squad shooter to its roots, and if the videos released so far are any indication, Ubisoft has done a magnificent job.
The series is best known for its brutal gameplay, including once a character is dead, they remain dead. Rainbow Six|Siege also introduces more environmental damage, meaning that squads can literally go through walls to secure their targets, which adds so many unique layers to planning and actual gameplay.
Here is the initial gameplay launch trailer from E3 2014:
As with previous Rainbow Six games, planning and communication with your squad plays an important role here. This is what separates R6 from other shooters. And R6|Siege represents the first time the franchise has come to new-gen consoles, bringing with it the graphical power of the PS4 and Xbox One to create a visually-stunning combat experience.
At E3 2015, Ubisoft rolled out new footage, as well as hinting at the game’s plot — including some incredible mo-cap/voice work from actress Angela Bassett. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six|Siege looked to be on the right path. Here’s the video of that presentation:
In one year’s time, Rainbow Six|Siege has really shaped up to be an instant classic shooter, one that, with recent events around the world, resonates deeper than a simple shooting game. Tom Clancy envisioned the Rainbow Six team concept in his 1998 novel to be the absolute anti-terrorism task force, and R6|Siege looks to capture that spirit once again.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six|Siege is in stores (virtual and physical) on December 1 for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles and each system will have a Gold Edition option that includes the DLC Season Pass. We will have a full review closer to launch.
