On Friday, Nintendo and Activision announced Skylanders Imaginators as one of the Nintendo Switch launch games slated for release on March 3rd. Another wave of Skylanders Imaginators toys for all formats will release the same date.
If you were lucky enough to pre-order a Nintendo Switch before they vanished then you can also now pre-order Skylanders Imaginators for Switch ($59.99) at Amazon.
The arrival of the Skylanders franchise on Switch comes with new on-the-go functionality and the loss of support for two classes of toys from previous games.
Starting with the bad news, Skylanders Imaginators on Switch will not support SuperChargers vehicles or Trap Team Traps, i.e. the new toy classes from the previous two games. No vehicle support means the hub map will be missing the vehicle race course entry point.
On the flip side, Imaginators on Switch will allow you to load all of your previously released Skylanders figures into the game using the NFC-enabled Joy-Con controllers. You load them once and then they’re permanently added and ready to select and switch to unless you delete them.
This is expanded functionality of the old 3DS versions that allowed you to load two Skylanders figures into the game at a time. With Switch you can load them all and take them wherever you want.
Also on March 3rd is the debut of the Cursed Tiki Temple level pack and Grave Clobber Sensei figures in stores. The new level pack includes Wild Storm; a life Creation Crystal; and an Imaginite Mystery Chest for $29.99. Hiding within it are over 100 all-new character parts for Imaginators custom characters.
