Sony is taking the pandemic quite seriously. And that’s a good thing for those hoping to score a PlayStation 5 console on its launch day next week.
All PS5 consoles made available on either November 12th or November 19th, depending on your region, will only be available to purchase online.
This means no lining up 48 hours in advance at Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Walmart or some other brick-and-mortar retail location. Doing so would be an invitation for COVID-19 to spread and potentially harm others, and Sony rightfully wants nothing to do with that.
Update: All PS5 console sales on launch day, November 12 or November 19 depending on your region, will be online-only. No units will be available in-store for purchase.

If you managed to already score a PS5 pre-order and selected in-store pickup then you’ll still be able to get your PS5 at the physical store you designated during checkout. Just don’t expect to strut into a Target and land a PS5 without a pre-order.
Expect the same places to have PS5’s for sale online on launch day as did for pre-orders. This includes Amazon, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, and others.
