Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Free Upgrade to New-Gen for Digital Versions

It’s highly like that many Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will make the jump to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively, this holiday season. This will likely happen after they’ve already purchased Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for Xbox 360 or PS4, so the desire to upgrade to new-gen will be strong once those new consoles are in hand.

Activision is well aware of this so they’ve set up a Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare free upgrade plan that takes advantage of the low cost of digital distribution. From now through March 31, 2015, anyone who purchases the digital version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for Xbox 360 or PS3 can upgrade to the new-gen version for no cost whatsoever.

Note that this upgrade program applies strictly to digital versions as it would be cost prohibitive for Activision to support physical copies.

Any multiplayer stats accrued or DLC added on the current-gen digital versions will automatically and freely transfer to new-gen once that version is downloaded, as long as the player’s Gamertag or PSN ID has not changed.

Activision is really pushing digital pre-orders, which will go live for Xbox One in the very near future (PlayStation platform digital pre-orders are already underway). Anyone who digitally pre-orders and pre-installs the game will get to start playing 24 hours early on November 3 as well as gain free access to the Day Zero edition with two extra weapons: an AK-12G Assault Rifle and Crossbow-B2. Activision is also running Double XP on November 3, otherwise known as Day Zero.

The official Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare release date is November 4.
