This year marks the 40th anniversary of the original 1984 The Karate Kid movie starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. To celebrate the occasion, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment are dialing up the nostalgia to 11 with a re-release of the 4K UHD in VHS-inspired packaging. The release date is June 18th, 2024, only four days away from its June 22nd, 1984 theatrical debut.
Update: you can now pre-order the 40th anniversary The Karate Kid 4K UHD at Amazon.
A new outer package isn’t all that’s “new” for this 40th anniversary 4K UHD version of The Karate Kid. Sony have tapped Netflix’s Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg to lay down an all-new commentary track for the 4K version. Additionally on the 4K disc, over 30 minutes of raw footage “Deleted Scene Dailies” are coming out of the archives for their public debut.
The Karate Kid 4K Ultra HD presentation is identical to the previous release with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.
