Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has dug into their film archive and selected Renny Harlin’s action-thriller Cliffhanger starring Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow and Michael Rooker for a 4K Ultra HD release on January 15th in celebration of the film’s 25th anniversary.
Cliffhanger is full of beautiful snowy scenery and amazing camera shots that should shine with HDR. The new 4K transfer is fully restored from the original camera negative. Hopefully this means the heavy digital processing seen on the previously released Blu-ray won’t appear again.
On the audio front, Cliffhanger is getting the Dolby Atmos treatment exclusive to this release.
No new bonus features have been commissioned for the 25th anniversary, but all the legacy ones are included on the inclusive Blu-ray. They are:
