Last year when Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit Trilogy on 4K Ultra HD, they promised a more complete box set in 2021. That set, the Middle Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition, has a release date, details and pre-order at Amazon.
This lavish 31-disc set is timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the movie that started it all, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. It has an October 26th, 2021 release date and carries a price of $239.99, though that could drop between now and release.
Pre-order Middle Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition 4K Blu-ray set at Amazon.
Last year’s two 4K trilogies with remastered 4K and Blu-ray editions of the theatrical and director’s cut of all 6 Peter Jackson Middle Earth films carry forward into this new box set. The 4K presentations include HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.
What’s new starts with a puzzle box package that includes a “64-page booklet featuring costumes, photography and production notes from the film, and art cards featuring travel posters and images from iconic locations throughout Middle-earth including The Shire, Lake-Town, Erebor, Anduin, Rohan, Minas Trith, and Rivendell.”
Additionally, a total of five all-new bonus features have been included in the Middle Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition box set. What’s not included are legacy bonus features from past Blu-ray releases, so that door remains open for an even bigger set should Warner Bros. choose to revisit Peter Jackson’s films down the road.
