‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’ 4K Blu-ray Bound

This year marks big anniversaries for two David Lean classics, Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai. As such, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be bringing both to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with Digital copies on a June 7th release date to commemorate the milestones. Each will be packaged in a Steelbook case.

Lawrence of Arabia celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and was previously exclusive to the Columbia Classics 4K box set. Winner of the 1962 Best Picture award, this sprawling epic will be “presented in 4K resolution with Dolby Vision, fully restored from the original camera negative.” It will also feature Dolby Atmos audio.

The film is so massive that it will span not one, but two 4K discs. A separate bonus features disc is included alongside a Blu-ray disc with one bonus feature, Secrets of Arabia: Feature-Length Picture-in-Graphics Track, and the 4K disc.

The Bridge on the River Kwai turns 65 this year. It stars Alec Guinness, who won Best Actor in 1957, and also won Best Picture the same year.

Like Lawrence of Arabia, this earlier Lean classic features Dolby Vision, restoration from the original film negative, and Dolby Atmos monoaural audio.

Bonus features and the film in 1080p high definition are on a second Blu-ray Disc.
