On October 29th, 2019, Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films will mark the 1000 spine number in the growing Criterion Collection of Blu-ray releases.
This massive 15-Film box set includes high definition transfers of all the Showa-Era Japaneses Godzilla films from 1954-1975 in deluxe packaging. Like its spine number and titular Kaiju hero this set is big, and fans want it bad.
These classic monster films have never been sold together in a single set. Often times their rights were held by different distributors and fans never thought one company could put them all together for a single release. Yet Criterion has managed to do just that.
As of the time of this post the Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films Criterion Collection Blu-ray is currently ranked number three on Amazon’s bestsellers chart. Not bad for a box set with a $169.99 price tag — or just over $10 per Godzilla film.
As October 29th draws closer we fully expect the Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films Blu-ray to work its way up into the number one spot. Expect a lot of Godzilla fans to find this set under their Christmas tree this year.
