Steven Spielberg’s classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind starring Richard Dreyfuss, Teri Garr, Melinda Dillon and François Truffautis is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on September 19th in celebration of the film’s 40th anniversary.
Two Close Encounters of the Third Kind 4K Blu-ray packages will be available to choose from, each containing all three versions of the film: theatrical, 1980 special edition, and 1997 director’s cut. Both packages include three discs with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and HDR, but the Limited Edition additionally includes illuminated packaging that plays the iconic 5-tone motif as well as an expanded booklet with rare archival photos.
New bonus features have been commissioned for the 40th anniversary. ‘Steven’s Home Movies & Outtakes’ includes rare behind-the-scenes footage and gags, while ‘Three Kinds of Close Encounters’ includes new interviews with Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Denis Villeneuve.
