Academy Award Winners ‘Coco’ and ‘The Shape of Water’ Blu-ray Sales Rise at Amazon

The 90th Academy Awards last night have been kind to the Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray home video releases of the Oscars winners.

Early this morning, Amazon’s Blu-ray Bestsellers chart has already seen a significant shift with Academy Awards winners dominating the top positions.

Lee Unkrich’s Coco (Best Animated Film) and Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water Blu-rays are in the first and second positions, respectively. Not coincidentally, the Coco 4K and The Shape of Water 4K releases sit in the 7th and 14th positions, respectively.

Note that The Shape of Water, this year’s Best Picture winner, won’t be in stores until next Tuesday, March 13th.

Darkest Hour won a Best Actor Academy Award for Gary Oldman and that win has propelled its Blu-ray into the 4th position.

Roger A. Deakins finally broke his drought and won Best Cinematography for the visually stunning Blade Runner 2049. That win popped the Blu-ray into the 6th position.

Other notable Academy Award winners that are rising at Amazon include Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Best Actress, Frances McDormand), Get Out (Writing – Original Screenplay, Jordan Peele), and Call Me By Your Name (Writing – Adapted Screenplay, James Ivory).
