Activision has revealed some new goodies coming to the Skylanders Trap Team suite of products just ahead of the 2015 Toy Fair. There’s a little bit of everything on the way in a final push before Skylanders 5 is formally announced and detailed in a few months.
First up is a new promotion in partnership with General Mills that will attach the Skylanders brand to cereal for the first time. The promotion will include physical Skystones cards in select Big G cereal boxes including Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Reese’s Puffs, Trix, Lucky Charms. There are four sets of cards with each set including 10 cards, so a total of 40 Skystones cards will be required to complete the set.
Of the 10 cards in each set, two will be ultra-powerful “boss” villain cards. These special cards will unlock free exclusive content in the Skylanders Collection Vault app, though what exactly that content is yet we don’t know.
Look for the General Mills Skystones cereal boxes in stores beginning on February 14.
Activision has also teamed up with Crayola to create a new Skylanders Trap Team starter pack with a twists. This starter pack features box art that can be colored with an inclusive package of Crayola Magic Crayons. These Crayons are part of Crayola’s new Color Alive! 4D Experience augmented reality technology so kids can use a tablet or smart phone to watch the characters on the box come to life. Additionally, a new Skylanders Trap Team coloring book using the Color Alive! technology and Crayola Magic Crayons will be sold separately.
The Skylanders Trap Team Crayola limited edition starter pack will be available this April at Toys “R” Us stores for $74.99 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U, and select Android, Apple and Kindle tablets.
Last but not least is the big reveal of two new Skylanders Trap Team springtime figures as well as a new trap. Power Punch Pet-Vac and Eggsellent Weeruptor join the Skylanders Minis line as Easter stocking stuffers, while a new limited edition Earth Trap with an Easter Bunny top will likely prove extremely popular at retail. Look for these new springtime Skylanders Trap Team toys on shelf in March/April.
