Dexter Alum David Zayas Joins Fox’s Gotham in Mobster Role

Fox’s Gotham has added to its mobster ranks by enlisting Dexter alum David Zayas for a recurring role that Batman part and full-time aficionados will most certainly recognize.

Per Deadline, Zayas has been successfully recruited by the Gotham team to portray Mob Boss Salvatore Maroni, a character plucked straight from the pages of DC Comics. Maroni ascends the ranks of crime to achieve second billing under only Carmine Falcone, though considering Gotham is a prequel to Batman, he may have some work to do before calling the shots and taking Falcone on for control of Gotham’s drug trade. Later on, Maroni will play an instrumental role in the incident that turns District Attorney Harvey Dent into Two-Face.

The role of Salvatore Maroni was played by Eric Roberts in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. Though Maroni had little screen time in only The Dark Knight, he should be more fleshed out in Gotham.

Zayas is best known for co-starring on Showtime’s Dexter as Angel Batista. He also starred on HBO’s Oz as Enrique Morales.
