NBC Conjures Up First Look at Constantine TV Series

NBC Conjures Up First Look at Constantine TV SeriesNBC revealed the first full-length trailer for the new TV series, Constantine, over the weekend ahead of their 2014 upfront presentation in NYC today. The show, based off the popular DC Comics series, Hellblazer, follows private investigator and occultist John Constantine (Matt Ryan, best known for voicing Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag) as he tries to stem a coming war between the demons of hell and all of humanity.

Harold Perrineau (Lost), and Lucy Griffiths (True Blood) also star. NBC also announced the new show will air on Friday nights, alongside recently renewed Grimm and possibly Hannibal, making for one solid night of dark, genre-driven hour longs.

John Constantine was created by Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta) and was a frequent guest star of Moore’s critically acclaimed run on the Swamp Thing series. He spun off into Hellblazer in the late ’80s and was part of DC Comics Vertigo line, along with other critical darlings such as Neil Gaiman’s Sandman and Bill Willingham’s Fables.

The new Constantine series has no connection to the 2004 theatrical film of the same name, starring Keanu Reeves, and is a reboot of the character and story as the trailer below makes obvious. It is one of three new DC Comics live-action series debuting this fall, the others being Gotham on Fox and The Flash on The CW.
