Freddie Prinze, Jr. Joins Star Wars Rebels as Jedi Kanan

Freddie Prinze, Jr. Joins Star Wars Rebels as Jedi KananThe Galactic Empire and its Sith enforcer, the Inquisitor, will have their hands full trying to thwart the birth of the rebellion and a surviving Jedi named Kanan, to be voiced by veteran actor Freddie Prinze, Jr., in Star Wars Rebels.

Executive producer and Rebels showrunner likes to refer to Kanan as a “cowboy Jedi” who shed his Jedi robes and tucked away his lightsaber 14 years prior to the show during the execution of the Emperor’s Order 66 that killed off almost the entire Jedi Order. As the rebellion springs to life and Kanan finds himself a part of it, the lightsaber will find its way out of hiding.

“He’s a gunslinger that needs to put the gun away and pick up the sword again, and fight for noble causes and selfless causes,” explains Filoni. But Kanan’s journey from someone living a lie to rediscovering his Jedi roots will not happen overnight.

Star Wars Rebels will blast onto the air this fall, starting with a one-hour special on the Disney Channel. Additional half-hour episodes will air exclusively shortly thereafter on Disney XD.

The 2014 International Toy Fair this upcoming weekend should reveal new Star Wars Rebels merchandising and potentially other characters that will fight alongside Kanan. Several looks at Kanan as well as a behind-the-scenes video are below.
