Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag Trailer Builds a Next-Gen Open World

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Trailer Builds a Next-Gen Open WorldUbisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag will be setting sail on next-gen PS4 and Xbox One consoles in addition to Xbox 360 and PS3, which upped the ante for the development team to create a next-gen open world to explore.

Anyone that has visited the Caribbean before knows of the strong rain storms and lush green foliage that is seemingly everywhere. The following nearly four-minute featurette digs into the next-gen features that make the world of Assassin’s Creed 4 tick and bring the Caribbean to life.

Ubisoft has developed several new systems for AC4 including a sea engine that they claim creates the “most realistic virtual ocean ever seen,” a dynamic weather system matches the Caribbean’s unique weather patterns, dynamic ripples and puddles that react to rain intensity, volumetric fog computed in real-time and affected by lighting, and a boarding system so ships can be fully climbed upon once they pull up alongside one another.

The video successfully got me excited to run around in and explore the world of Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag and even put on an eye-patch.

Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag comes to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U on October 29, followed by PS4 and Xbox One versions in November.
