Universal’s The Purge starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey is bringing 12 hours of penalty-free crime to Blu-ray and DVD on October 8, the same day Universal is releasing Curse of Chucky and Chucky: The Complete Collection on Blu-ray.
The Purge and its crazy notion that the government sanctions a 12-hour period once a year where all crime is legal was a summer horror hit for Universal as it exploded at the box office with a big $34 million opening weekend. To date it has earned $64.3 million that is far beyond the film’s estimated $3 million production budget.
The Blu-ray edition of The Purge will include DVD and UltraViolet, and be presented in 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. There is only one bonus feature included, but it looks like a robust one:
Surviving The Night: The Making of The Purge – In this exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette, viewers discover how an act of road rage inspired writer and director James DeMonaco to create The Purge, what attracted the cast to the project and how the world of 2022 depicted in the film mirrors the world today. Featuring exclusive interviews with stars Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane, Max Burkholder and Edwin Hodge, this featurette asks the question: What would it take for The Purge to become reality?
