The Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt Sci-fi flick All You Need is Kill is coming to the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con, but it is doing so with a brank spanking new name.
Tossing aside the name of the Hiroshi Sakurazaka book the film is based on, Warner Bros. has opted to rename the Doug Liman film the simpler title Edge of Tomorrow. Honestly the title isn’t as important to this project as its premise of Tom Cruise fighting aliens.
In the film, Cruise plays a Lieutenant Colonel whom is dropped into battle against a superior alien race that no military force on earth has been able to defeat. He is quickly killed, only to discover that a time loop throws him back to the point just before the battle. With each passing attempt and death, Cruise learns more about the alien strategy and gets closer to finally defeating them.
The similarities to Groundhog Day are apparent though clearly the stakes are much higher for Cruise and Blunt. Warner Bros. is marketing Edge of Tomorrow as a big Sci-fi epic and aims to give Comic-Con attendees at the Warner Bros. panel this upcoming weekend a first look at footage from the film. With any luck that sneak peek will reveal what the alien forces look like.
For now, Warner Bros. is sharing a new Comic-Con poster for Edge of Tomorrow, which I have included below along with a couple images from the film. Look for it to blast into theaters on June 6, 2014 in 2D and 3D.
