Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is having a rather expected surge of sales heading into its Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD debut tonight at midnight.
I have been watching online retailer Amazon.com’s Blu-ray bestseller’s chart over the past week and both the Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of the film have been a solid fixture in the top 10.
Within the past couple days, both Blu-ray editions have cracked the top three and share the top spots with Universal’s Les Miserables. Depending on when you take a peek you might even find The Hobbit sitting in first and second place with the Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D combo packs, respectively.
Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings films were also big sellers on Blu-ray and DVD in both their theatrical and extended edition cuts. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is headed down the same path and proving Warner’s bean counters and executives had the right idea from a monetary view when splitting what was originally envisioned as two films into three.
