Joss Whedon has cast a second agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. to star in his upcoming television pilot/series of the same name coming to ABC next fall.
Ming-Na has joined the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot as Agent Melinda May. She is described as a hardened soldier and weapons expert, but her time in combat has damaged her psyche.
May will likely work under Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson. Gregg was the first confirmed cast member to join S.H.I.E.L.D. and arguably the most important given his connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is still unclear how Coulson is alive in the S.H.I.E.L.D. series given his character met an untimely death in The Avengers.
Whedon’s pick up of Ming-Na brings in an experienced television genre actress. She previously appeared on Syfy’s Stargate Universe and Eureka. Her lengthy credits also include a stint on Two and a Half Men.
Production on S.H.I.E.L.D. is expected to get underway very soon as the script is polished up and the roles cast.
