True Blood wraps up its fifth season tonight and simultaneously bids farewell to show creator and showrunner Alan Ball who is stepping down to tackle on other projects outside the world of Bon Temps. So what can we expect from tonight’s Season 5 finale, ‘Save Yourself?” Likely a major death or two, either a radical change to or elimination of Lilith and/or the Authority, and maybe Sookie getting rid of one Russell Edgington once and for all.
One of the big character arcs this season has been Bill’s devotion to Lilith and change of attitude toward every non-vampire race. Once the sane mind of the Bill and Eric’s bogus journey pairing, Bill is now the one in trouble and Eric is left trying to save not only his vampire friend, but the fate of humanity.
To set things straight, either The Authority or Lilith will need to be taken out. Sam, Luna and Pam are already being held captive there, and an armed Jason will find his way inside based on the promotional teaser clip released. The x-factors in this equation are Jessica and Tara who could turn up to save their makers and end up saving the day for everyone.
With Steve Newlin down, Russell Edgington’s thirst for faerie blood has him taking on all the faeries at their club by himself. Sookie’s with the faeries so I don’t see how Russell’s going to come out on top. Though imagine Russell getting into that club and draining every faerie in their dry? That would be a great setup for Season 6: a nearly invincible day-walking Russell takes on the world.
One of the odder storylines that will play out in the True Blood: Season 5 finale is Andy’s Light Pact with the faerie he impregnated. The two choices he was given was to be the father to the faerie child that looks like it’s about ready to pop, or be the reason for a war between faeries and humans. I think the war is going to be a more personal one between a faerie and a witch who share a common sheriff interest.
Let’s not forget about Alcide. Now that he’s sort of patched things up with the old man, he’ll head back to the pack that threw him out and take on J.D. for a second time. I’d put my money on Alcide.
Who is going to die in the True Blood: Season 5 finale? My prediction is everyone on the Vampire Authority introduced this season (Salome, Nora), Lilith or whatever she is, and either Luna or Jason as the big impact bye-bye. I think it would be appropriate for Bill to sacrifice himself after breaking Lilith’s spell, but don’t see Alan Ball going there.
