Jon Hamm let slip the news Man Men faithful have been waiting for: the fifth season will premiere on March 25. The actor dropped the news during a podcast with Doug Loves Movies.
Mad Men has been on hiatus since the first half of 2010 after it was kept off the air during contract negotiations between AMC, Lionsgate, and showrunner Matt Weiner. A deal was eventually reached that secured Weiner through a seventh and presumed final season.
Production on Mad Men Season 5 began last summer with the show’s star John Hamm stepping behind the camera for the first time to direct the premiere episode. A total of 13 episodes for the fifth season of Mad Men have been produced.
Hamm has found success on the big screen during the Mad Men outage. In addition to appearing in Sucker Punch, the actor added a dose of testosterone to the hit female comedy Bridesmaids last summer.
AMC has yet to confirm or deny the March 25 premiere date for Mad Men Season 5. March has been considered the target launch month since before production began so the date fits right in with expectations. With the date coming from Jon Hamm’s mouth directly, it’s a good as signed, sealed and delivered.
The first four seasons of Mad Men are currently available on Blu-ray at Amazon.com for around $20 per season.
