Real Steel starring Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly is still throwing punches at the box office, but that hasn’t stopped Disney from launching the film’s Blu-ray campaign well ahead of its expected release date.
In conjunction with online retailer Amazon.com, Disney is offering a pre-order for the Real Steel Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy combo pack for $31.49, or 30 percent off the $44.99 list price. To sweeten the deal further, there’s an Amazon coupon digital coupon that knocks another $5 off the price, bringing the total to $26.49.
Interest in the Real Steel Blu-ray and DVD combo at this price is surging. As of early Sunday afternoon, the title stood in the fifth spot on Amazon’s hourly updated Blu-ray bestsellers chart. That puts it ahead of Disney’s own Cars 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and only one spot behind the upcoming release of J.J. Abrams’ Super 8.
Real Steel does not have a home video release date yet, but is expected to arrive sometime in January 2012.
