Natalie Dormer has joined HBO’s Game of Thrones just a few days removed from the show wrapping up its first season with a finale that drew more viewers than any previous episode.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Dormer will join Game of Thrones as Margaery Tyrell of the House of Tyrell. She is described as a “beautiful and shrewd woman” who is to marry King Robert’s brother Renly Baratheon. The move is designed to aid in Renly’s big to take the throne from sociopath King Joffrey.
Dormer is best known for her turn portraying Anne Boleyn in Showtime’s The Tudors so she’s no stranger to appearing in an edgy pay channel drama. She also appeared in the series Silk, the pilot for Poe which was not picked up to series, and will appear in next month’s Captain America: The First Avenger.
Game of Thrones season 2 with Natalie Dormer on board begins production the last week of July in Ireland. You can watch the short Game of Thrones season 2 teaser trailer here.
