April is a great month for fantasy television fans. Starz will begin the first season of their original show Camelot whose premiere episode, which was previewed after the series finale of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, showed great promise. A couple weeks after Camelot opens its gates, HBO will launch Game of Thrones based on the bestselling ongoing book series by author George R. R. Martin.
A new 2:20 promotional trailer for Game of Thrones popped up exclusively on EW earlier today and is chock full of references to the book series. Having not read the books I cannot speak to them directly, but the commenters on EW are happy with the abundance of familiar faces and places. As an outsider to the book series, I see what looks to be a fantastic show with a darker tone than Camelot and endless possibilities for epic greatness.
Game of Thrones stars an extensive cast featuring Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Mark Addy and Lena Headey. It premieres exclusively on HBO on April 17.
