Clint Eastwood to Direct Beyonce in A Star is Born Remake

Warner Bros. is wasting no time making sure their legendary director Clint Eastwood keeps busy.

Eastwood has agreed to direct what will be the third remake of A Star is Born for the studio from a script by Will Fetters. The project has been in development for some time with Beyonce attached to star as the female lead. The male lead role has yet to be filled.

The original A Star is Born was released in 1937 and starred Fredric March and Janet Gaynor. The first remake came out in 1954 with James Mason and Judy Garland taking lead. A second remake appeared in 1976 with Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand.

Names rumored to be in the mix for the starring role alongside Beyonce include Russell Crowe and Will Smith. These names were being tossed around when Joel Schumacher and Nick Cassavetes were being mentioned to direct. With Eastwood on-board he’ll likely have a strong say in who is ultimately chosen.

Before Eastwood gets to work on A Star is Born he’ll need to put together his J. Edgar Hoover biopic appropriately titled J. Edgar. Shooting on that film which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Josh Lucas, Armie Hammer and Judi Dench is scheduled to get underway this spring.
