To many, Jorge Garcia will always be Hurley, the lovable lug who brought humor to Lost with sometimes only a single word or curious expression. Since Lost left the air, Garcia has been off the radar and his television return seemingly in doubt.
According to Deadline, Garcia has found a new TV gig revolving around a small island with, who else, Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams. Garcia is set to star in a new pilot for Fox called Alcatraz, a mystery surround a missing group of prisoners and guards from the famous decommissioned prison who suddenly reappear in modern times. A team of FBI agents will be tasked with tracking down the returned missing persons and unraveling the mystery surrounding their disappearance. Garcia will play “hippy geek” Dr. Diego Soto, the most knowledgeable Alcatraz historian on the planet.
The pilot episode of Alcatraz is scheduled to begin shooting in January based off a spec script by Elizabeth Sarnoff. If all goes as planned, the first substantial footage could make a public debut at Comic-Con in July.
