Warner Celebrates Sci-Fi on Blu-ray with THX-1138, Mars Attacks! and 4 More

On September 7, Warner Home Video is dipping into their sci-fi catalog to bring five films to Blu-ray Disc for the first time, along with a sixth available individually for the first time.

Three of the films are making their high-def debut: George Lucas’ THX-1138: Director’s Cut, Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks! and Lost in Space. A Scanner Darkly and Forbidden Planet will be making their Blu-ray debut but were previously available on HD DVD. The last title, Matrix Reloaded, was previously only available in the Matrix Trilogy box set. Matrix Revolutions remains exclusive to that set.

All six titles are expected (though unconfirmed) to be presented in 1080p video and DTS-HD Master Audio. Warner has only confirm bonus features for THX-1138 as follows:

  • Commentary with George Lucas and Walter Murch
  • Theater of Noise (Sound Effects Only Track)
  • Master Sessions with Walter Murch
  • A Legacy of Filmmakers: The Early Years of American Zoetrope
  • Artifact from the Future: The Making of THX1138
  • Electronic Labyrinth TXH 1138 4EB
  • Theatrical and Re-Release Trailer

Warner has priced each film at $24.98 SRP which will amount to under $20 at retail. Check back regularly for high-res cover art and the Amazon.com pre-order link for each of these sci-fi films.
