Stallone Not Interested in Rambo V; New Rambo Director’s Cut Coming

The last we heard of another adventure for John Rambo was last September when it seemed as if Nu Image/Millennium had green lit production to begin this spring. Then Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables was pushed from the spring to fall and Rambo 5 (V) has not been heard of since.

While talking to Stallone about The Expendables recently, Empire Online brought up the topic of Rambo and received a surprising response about the fifth film’s future.

“I was going to do it,” Stallone said. “I said I’d never talk about this, but with I feel that with Rocky Balboa, that character came complete circle. He went home. But for Rambo to go on another adventure might be, I think, misinterpreted as a mercenary gesture and not necessary. I don’t want that to happen.”

Stallone goes on to reveal that he is working on a new director’s cut of Rambo (aka Rambo IV) that will add 12 minutes of footage.

“He does a speech at the beginning of the movie to Julie Benz where he lays out why his life has been a complete disappointment and why war is natural and peace is an accident,” added Stallone. “And how he just feels that his life has been a waste. It’s very important to hear that and I didn’t think so at the time. I’m going to go back and put in some stuff.”

Stallone offers no timing for when the new director’s cut of Rambo might be available on Blu-ray Disc and DVD. My best guess would be to time with the theatrical or home video debut of The Expendables either later this year or early next.
