Michael Bay on multiple occasions has promised Transformers 3 will be a departure from the first two films by shifting the focus from endless explosions to the characters. That’s a hard pill to swallow coming from Bay, but now Hasbro CEO Brian Jacks is backing up the man in charge of returning the company’s multimillion dollar franchise to the big screen.
“You’re going to see that great core mythology brought to the fore, and Michael is hard at work at making this a reality,” Jacks told MTV. “What we’re really doing is getting back to some of the core character development and storytelling. And I think there’s some elements of the core story that the filmmakers, Michael in particular wanted to tell. He’s really well-versed in the Transformers lore. So I think you’ll see, you know, less bedlam, more characters.”
Less bedlam from Michael Bay? Core mythology like perhaps Cybertron that might hopefully look something like this? I’ll believe it when I see it.
Whatever happens, Jacks confirms Transformers and Revenge of the Fallen human stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are definitely on board for the third installment. Their participation had been assumed up until this point but never confirmed by an official source.
Transformers 3 will arrive in theaters on July 1, 2011. Shooting is expected to begin this summer.
