First Aliens on Blu-ray News; Possible Game Tie-In?

In November 2007, Fox Home Entertainment packaged all four Die Hard movies into a Blu-ray Disc box set as the “must have” Blu-ray purchase for the holiday season. Almost exactly a year later, they raised the bar and forged a lavish Planet of the Apes Blu-ray set with new high definition bonus features.

I’ve been speculating for close to a year now that Fox will raise the bar yet again when November 2009 rolls around by tapping into another one of their marquee franchises: Alien. The original Alien film celebrates its 30th anniversary this year making all four films prime candidates for a Blu-ray set.

Today the crew over at Bloody Disgusting offered the first confirmation (albeit without citing a source) that at least the first three Alien films are currently being prepped for release on Blu-ray with newly produced bonus features. Will Fox digitally enhance the picture or stick with the shoddy original prints? Will all four films be included in a set or will each be available separately? When are they coming out? These are all questions desperately seeking answers.

The staff here at TheHDRoom got pretty damn excited when we saw this news. James Cameron’s Aliens in DTS-HD Master Audio and 1080p video? We’d all drop $50 or more in a heartbeat for that disc alone.

Lets suppose Fox is indeed packaging the Alien Quadrilogy for Blu-ray in November. Does that mean SEGA’s Aliens: Colonial Marines PS3 and Xbox 360 FPS will come out the same time? With Sony’s upcoming June 16 simultaneous debut for Ghostbusters on Blu-ray and in game form on Xbox 360 and PS3, I’d be shocked with Fox and SEGA aren’t collaborating for a simultaneous anniversary release. If they aren’t, I really someone in either marketing department reads this and takes action.
