The battle for your Christmas gift cards and cash is in full swing! With discounted Blu-ray players flying off shelves on Black Friday and Playstation 3 bundles selling swiftly through the Thanksgiving weekend, publishers are looking at ways to make sure their titles end up in the hands of scores of potential new Blu-ray owners.
Paramount Home Entertainment made the first move by poising its big new theatrical releases, Eagle Eye, The Duchess and Ghost Town, for a Sunday, December 28 release. This game them a two-day head start on Sony’s big new release, Resident Evil: Degeneration, slated for a more conventional December 30 bow.
As Star Wars fans would say, The Sony Empire Strikes Back! Word has just come in that Resident Evil: Degeneration on Blu-ray Disc (and DVD, PSP for that matter) has been moved up 3 days to a Saturday, December 27 release. The move makes the first CGI-animated Resident Evil flick the first new Blu-ray Disc available after Christmas.
To recap Resident Evil: Degeneration’s specs, the film will be presented in widescreen 1.78:1 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.
Bonus features lead off with a pair of Blu-ray exclusives but lack a playable demo of Resident Evil 5 which would have been an ideal PS3-exclusive bonus.
