Blu-ray Momentum Contines with New Sony Players Featuring BD-Live

Sony Electronics has announced a pair of new Blu-ray Disc players will hit the market this summer. Both players will be capable of running advanced interactive features such as Bonus View (picture-in-picture) and BD-Live.

The BDP-S350 and BDP-S550 will each include an external port for optional USB flash-based memory storage. The BDP-S550 also includes a 1GB storage device which the BDP-S350 does not.

From a presentation standpoint, both players will be maxed out with the latest and greatest specs we’ve come to expect from a Blu-ray player including 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema output support, 1080p upscaling, and the ability to playback AVCHD discs encoded with x.v.Color (xvYCC) technology.

On the audio front, both players will support 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio bit-stream output. The BDP-S550 takes audio a step further with DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding as well as 7.1 channel analog audio output.

The BDP-S350 will retail for around $400 while the BDP-S550 will set you back an extra $100 at $500.
