At least 90 percent of catalog titles released on either Blu-ray Disc or HD DVD contain the same special features and cover art as their DVD counterparts. It’s a rare occasion when one comes along to break the pattern, especially one not as high profile as say Blade Runner. That’s exactly what’s happened with Sony’s Gattaca.
Until a short while ago, we were lead to believe Gattaca was a typical standard def to HD port with improved picture and audio, despite the title being delayed for nearly a year after its initial announcement. Now we’ve discovered Sony has justified the delay with some welcome updates sure to make Gattaca fans happy.
Gattaca on Blu-ray now sports revised cover art featuring a “special edition” subtitle. In addition, the back cover reveals two all-new special features: a “Welcome to Gattaca” featurette, and “Do Not Alter?” documentary.
To recap the disc specs, Sony will present Gattaca on Blu-ray in widescreen 2.4:1 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio. The special features are noted as being a mix of standard and high-def, though we’re unsure of how that breaks down at this time.
Gattaca on Blu-ray carries an SRP of $28.95 and will be available on March 11.
