Yesterday at the Sixth Annual Home Entertainment Summit: DVD & Beyond, Starz Home Entertainment (formerly Anchor Bay) announced plans to align with Blu-ray Disc and release the first title on the high definition format later this year. This news comes as another blow to HD DVD following Blockbusters commitment to expand their Blu-ray Disc capacity at stores nationwide.
The first Blu-ray Disc title release by Starz is expected to be the entire first season of the popular ‘Masters of Horror’ Collection. Additional titles are also apparently in the pipeline to be announced at a later date.
Also of note is an interesting quote made by Starz President Bill Clark, “If Blu-ray wins, all catalogue would go [Blu-ray], we’d hope.” What happens, Bill, if HD DVD “wins?” Stay tuned for more Starz Blu-ray Disc news as it comes in.
