‘Winter is coming this summer and no one had to bend a knee first.
The imminent arrival of HBO’s Game of Thrones in 4K Ultra HD resolution with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio now has a date, and that date is June 5th.
The bad news is that only Season 1 is slated for release. Subsequent seasons of Game of Thrones on 4K UHD Blu-ray will have to wait.
One would have to think that HBO will want all of the previous Game of Thrones seasons available in 4K prior to the eighth and final season’s arrival sometime in 2019. The best we can do is speculate that Season 2 and beyond will be here sooner rather than later.
As with HBO’s first foray into 4K UHD last fall with Westworld Season 1, Game of Thrones Season 1 in 4K UHD will also include a Digital HD copy but will not include the standard Blu-ray release. Bonus features are identical to what was originally released on the Blu-ray version and will be presented in 1080p HD on Blu-ray.
Here’s the cover art followed by those legacy bonus features.
