Jon Bernthal made a huge impact as Frank Castle aka The Punisher in Season 2 of Daredevil, so much so that Netflix is moving forward with giving the deadly vigilante his own show to dole out justice in.
TVLine is reporting that Marvel and Netflix will announce The Punisher series at some point today per their sources. This would mark the sixth series in the same Marvel universe including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the yet-to-air Iron Fist, Luke Cage and The Defenders.
Hannibal writer Steve Lightfoot has been tapped to executive produce. No other attached talent are known at this time.
Update: The official announcement has been made and the first piece of promotional artwork from the Netflix The Punisher series has been added below.
Right now the timeline for release is a little sketchy but we do know Luke Cage is coming in October, Iron Fist is currently in production, Jessica Jones Season 2 is being planned, and The Defenders showrunners are in place. It seems likely that The Punisher would premiere after The Defenders.
The Marvel Netflix landscape is becoming so crowded that we could be moving toward a scenario where there is a new batch of episodes from one of its properties debuting every three months. As it stands only Daredevil Season 2 and Luke Cage are scheduled for 2016.
