And the first announced Blu-ray 3D title that will be available for sale individually at retail is… Disney’s CGI A Christmas Carol on November 16! Until this news the only way to get one of the three available Blu-ray 3D movies was by purchasing the hardware.
Disney is taking the concept of “combo pack” to a new level with A Christmas Carol on Blu-ray. A fourth disc for a Blu-ray 3D presentation will be added to the 2D Blu-ray presentation, DVD version and digital copy for a whopping four-disc set that carries a steep $49.99 SRP.
A single-disc 2D version will also be available on Blu-ray at SRP $39.99. Saving $10 will lose you the DVD, digital copy and Blu-ray 3D versions as well as an exclusive bonus feature to 3D outlined below:
- BD 3D Exclusive: Scrooge’s Wild Ride (3D)
- BD Exclusive: Behind the Carol – the full motion capture experience
- BD Exclusive: Digital Advent Calendar
- Capturing A Christmas Carol
- On Set with Sammi
- Deleted Scenes
- DVD and digital copy
Both the 2D and 3D versions of A Christmas Carol on Blu-ray will be presented in 2.4:1 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.
A Christmas Carol is likely the first of many Blu-ray 3D announcements coming in the latter half of this year. Toy Story 3 and Despicable Me are also strong candidates.
