Skylanders Imaginators Wave 5 is making its way into stores marking the end of new toys-to-life Skylanders figures from Activision this year barring some unexpected E3 announcement next month.
As such, there’s some pressure for these final Skylanders Imaginators figures to deliver and I’m happy to report they both do. In fact, you can drop either one of them into Nightmare Mode and they’ll be leveled up and kicking butt before you know it.
Thus far Master Tidepool and Blaster-Tron have only been spotted at Target stores (not on their website) so they’re possibly a timed release. Keep in mind that the final Skylanders wave for any game are usually produced in the lowest number and hardest to find later on. If you want a complete set of Skylanders Imaginators figures then I would grab this pair if you see them at retail before they inevitably vanish.
Blaster-Tron
Blaster-Tron, another of the reformed villains from Skylanders Trap Team, is a rare Light Element Skylander that falls into the Sensei Knight Class. Unlike Light Element Skylanders before him whose dominant color is white, Blaster-Tron’s color palette is predominantly purples and silvers with red highlights. There’s not a speck of white on him.
In battle Blaster-Tron utilizes a massive sword to make swift work of enemies in melee combat. His sword also fires a trio of projectiles while hacking and slashing away to add a little ranged spice to his repertoire.
My favorite Blaster-Tron attack is a energy field that he deploys. Any enemy caught within this domed energy field starts taking damage until they exit it. You can trap a hoard of enemies in the field and watch them fall like flies.
Blaster–Tron isn’t just state–of–the–art technology;he literally is from the future. When the Skylanders traveled forward in time to stop Wolfgang, they ended up bringing back the renegade robot with hopes that they could learn from his advanced circuitry. Eon immediately noticed that he had an actual “Good/Evil” switch that had been set to Evil. After flipping it to Good, Blaster–Tron was completely transformed. Besides going from bad robot to good robot, he ditched his blaster gun in exchange for a laser sword. No one knew exactly why, but as long as he was helping out the cause of justice, the Skylanders were happy. As a bonus, Master Eon noticed that his skill with the blade was second to none, and so he made Blaster–Tron a Sensei for the Knight Class, where he now gives 110% to training his students –which is technically possible because in the future, we figure out how to give more than 100%.
Master Tidepool
Master Tidepool hails from the Water Element and is a member of the Sensei Gunslinger Class. Her figure definitely supports her class with two drawn squid-like pistols and flowing green locks. She looks like she’s about to jump into a match of Splatoon 2 at any moment.
Those squid guns are a blast to fire away and take down formidable enemies from afar without ever getting caught in their attack zone. She’s also got deployable fish that like Blaster-Tron’s energy field will inflict damage upon enemies that come near them. Master Tidepool can deploy two or three of these fish at a time.
Long before she became a Sensei, Tidepool was an undercover agent for a top secret organization known as the Aqua Marines. However, one day she was betrayed by her superiors, who were part of an even more top secret organization intent on destroying Skylands. Using her spy training, Tidepool made it her personal mission to seek out every member of this evil shadow group and bring them to justice. This did not go unnoticed by Master Eon, who felt that someone of her caliber would be perfect to train new Skylanders as a Sensei of the Gunslinger class. However, Tidepool was not easily convinced that she could even trust Eon and the Skylanders after being deceived by her last organization. To earn her trust, she requested that everyone pass a truth test that she would conduct. Thankfully, all of the members of the Skylanders Academy passed with flying colors… except for Flynn, who insisted that he was 50% Mabu and 50% enchilada sauce. Tidepool felt that he was 100% meathead.
Picking a favorite between these two new Skylanders Imaginators Wave 5 characters is tough. On one hand they look nothing alike and fall into polar opposite Sensei classes. On the other there are similarities in how they play making them great late additions to the line.
