USA vs England World Cup 2019 Preview
With both Germany and France out, the USWNT are now the top favorites to win the 2019 World Cup by a slightly larger margin.
If the USWNT beats England and advances, which they’re projected to do, then they’ll be favored again over whoever wins the other semifinal match between Norway and Sweden.
After Alex Morgan scored five goals against an undersized and outmatched Thailand team, it’s been the Megan Rapinoe show for Team USA. The winger scored both goals against France and has become the face of the team during this World Cup run.
With five goals overall, Rapinoe is also tied with Morgan for the Golden Boot award. But if Rapinoe is to score today against the Lionesses, she’ll likely have to do so against star England back Lucy Bronze.
Update: Rapinoe has been benched for the semifinals match against England. It’s likely she’ll come in as a sub at some point. It’s certainly a controversial movie for the U.S. coach to make and will be dissected if England prevails.
The USWNT and England teams faced one another in the SheBelieves Cup earlier this year. That game ended in a 2-2 draw, which should give England a little extra confidence that they can potentially pull off the upset.
