The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants were supposed to be two contenders this season in the NFC East. Instead, the Giants are still winless and have been blown out more often than not, while the Eagles are sliding fast and in jeopardy of watching their 1-3 record slip to 1-4. In the past two games, the Giants have managed to score only seven combined points while giving up over 30-per game. Eli Manning has thrown nine interceptions, more than any quarterback in the entire league, and been sacked 14 total times, or only five fewer times than all of the 2012 regular season campaign. Eli has never been worse, and as a result the Giants are close to matching one of the worst starts in franchise history.
A porous Eagles secondary may be just what Manning needs to get back on track. Victor Cruz is fourth in the NFL with 425 yards receiving and could be running loose against the Eagles. If the Eagles cannot contain Cruz then his four touchdowns could jump to six or seven by the time the game comes to a close, and the Eagles defense average of giving up 461.3 yards per game, second worst in the league, could inch up even higher.
The Eagles have found success moving the ball and average 480.5 yards per game. Part of their problem has been putting the ball in the end zone and keeping other teams out. Michael Vick has been sacked 14 times already, the same amount Eli Manning has. However, the Giants defense, which historically has been one of the best pass rushing units in the NFL, has only totaled four this season through four games to rank dead last in a tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
One way for the Eagles to limit Manning’s effectiveness against their secondary is to keep them off the field. That could come from LeSean McCoy who leads the NFL in rushing at 117 yards per game. McCoy has been electric on offense, making tacklers miss and frankly making them look silly. Of the 14 total 100-yard rushing games in McCoy’s past, four of them have come against the Giants. In other words, McCoy loves playing against the division rival up north.
The NFC East battle between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants will be televised live on Fox at 1pm EST / 10am PST. Fox does not offer online live streaming free for their NFL games. However, subscribers of NFL Sunday Ticket with the Max extension can check out right here and watch Eagles at Giants online live streaming free on cell phones, iPads and other Internet devices. The weak link in this game is the Eagles defense and I think they’ll be the difference as the Giants finally win their first game of the season.
